Essential Updates: Exploring the UAE's New Edition of Labor Accommodation System

The UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization (MOHRE) has launched an updated version of the Labor Accommodation System, the first national online platform for registering worker housing facilities and connecting them with companies across the country.

The goal is to raise awareness about accommodation units that comply with MOHRE’s quality standards and regulations, in collaboration with other government entities. This initiative aims to improve the well-being of workers in the UAE and further strengthen its position as a top global destination for living, working, and investing.

Companies with 50 or more employees are urged to provide housing for their staff through approved facilities registered on the system’s website. MOHRE is encouraging the registration of required data to implement Ministerial Resolution №44 of 2022 regarding occupational health, safety and labor housing.

Compliance with these standards and conditions has increased notably since the platform launched, driven by inspections, efforts ensuring companies meet obligations, and legal actions against non-compliant operators. MOHRE’s partnership with the private sector and awareness campaigns targeting employers have been successful in fostering higher compliance.

The number of private companies adhering to housing standards and registered on the system rose 1000% by the end of 2023 from February 2022 when the resolution took effect, reflecting growing employer awareness of rules supporting worker well-being and productivity.

Collaboration between government entities has also played an important role, conducting 103 joint inspection campaigns in 2023. This helps ensure facilities and owners follow ministry guidelines for health, safety and suitable living conditions, ultimately enhancing quality of life.

MOHRE has established national databases with relevant authorities to streamline oversight of working environments and living standards. Legislation comprehensively addresses standards for health, comfort and safety, including signage, amenities, materials, spaces, facilities and hygiene.
