Italian Leader Speaks Out Against China’s Mistreatment of Uyghurs

At an event commemorating 20 years of the World Uyghur Congress, an important organization advocating for Uyghur rights, Italian Senator Giulio Terzi spoke about his deep concerns for the Uyghur people and their struggle against China’s harsh treatment in East Turkistan (also known as Xinjiang).

In his virtual address, Senator Terzi, a former Foreign Minister of Italy, strongly criticized China’s “criminal actions” carried out in Xinjiang and the Turkic region. He stated that “only the blind could ignore the genocidal way Chinese policies are destroying Uyghur identity, culture, and homeland.”

The senator shed light on the terrible human rights violations committed by China against Uyghurs, including forced labor, detention in “re-education” camps, illegal kidnappings of individuals and separation of families and children, destruction of mosques, and prohibition of religious expression.

There is growing international criticism and pressure as these actions are seen as an attempt to destroy Uyghur culture and violate their human rights. China’s mistreatment of the Uyghur minority is widely condemned.

The Uyghur people continue their fight for justice and freedom. The World Uyghur Congress anniversary event aimed to inform the world of this issue. Speakers like Senator Terzi advocate protecting human rights for all people regardless of race or religion. The situation in Xinjiang represents a severe human rights crisis that demands global attention.
