Over 302,000 Migrants Flood Into US Southern Border In December
A record-breaking number of more than 302,000 migrants arrived at the US southern border in December according to a new report, surpassing the previous monthly high set in September.
Most of these individuals crossed between official ports of entry without authorization. With apprehensions exceeding capacity at processing facilities, thousands have been held in overcrowded conditions. While the Biden administration disputes labeling it a ‘crisis’, Republicans strongly criticize the border situation and homeland security policies.
As policy debates continue in Washington over reforming the system and providing additional funding for border management and migrant services, immigration levels have risen significantly since 2021 and remain a contentious political issue with disagreements around enforcement priorities and humanitarian considerations for those fleeing difficult circumstances seeking entry to America.
