Plight Of Nobel Peace Prize Winner Narges Mohammadi In Iranian Prison
Human rights campaigner and Nobel laureate Narges Mohammadi of Iran went on a hunger strike on Monday in an Iranian prison after being denied access to medical care because she refused to wear a headscarf or hijab.
Women’s rights were severely harmed when medical care for female prisoners in an Iranian jail was denied to them due to their refusal to cover their heads. She went on a hunger strike to vent her resentment at being refused access to healthcare due to hijab restrictions.
It was determined that Narges Muhammadi had high blood pressure and two significant venous blockages. The physician prescribed an off-site lung scan and coronary angiography for her last week. She was, however, turned down for a transfer from Evin Prison. She was not allowed to leave the prison without a headscarf, or hijab, according to the warden.
When receiving medical care, Narges Mohammadi declared she would not wear the “forced hijab.” While mentioning that Narges Mohammadi had an echocardiography, her family remained silent regarding the specific conditions she suffered from.
On Monday, Narges Mohammadi went on a hunger strike to protest Iranian hijab restrictions and to voice her unhappiness at not being able to seek medical care.
