Migrants Are Tortured At Detention Facility In New Mexico
At a detention facility in New Mexico, migrants are allegedly subjected to regular torture, according to a recent class-action lawsuit. In addition to being forced into cleaning jobs, migrants frequently lack access to adequate food, clean water, and medical care. They may not even be paid for their labor at times.
A group of supporters for immigrant rights announced the filing of a new class-action lawsuit on Wednesday. On behalf of four migrants from Venezuela, ages 26 to 40, they brought the action.
In the Southwestern state of New Mexico, refugees applied for asylum. They were housed at the New Mexico Torrance County Detention Facility. The Torrance County Detention Facility allegedly refused the migrants access to food, medical care, and functional showers. According to migrant accounts, people were occasionally coerced into cleaning jobs without receiving payment.
According to the latest class-action lawsuit, the US immigration authorities ignored warning indications that the migrant facility was hazardous and unhygienic.
The living conditions at the migrant center are subpar, according to the lawsuit. Additionally, illegal migrants and those seeking refuge have restricted access to legal representation.
