Italy To Build Migrant Centers In Albania; What Can Migrants Expect?
An agreement to construct two migrant camps in northwest Albania was announced by Italy, a country in Europe with a lengthy Mediterranean coastline. Unaccompanied migrants that are saved at sea by Italian boats will be housed in the migration centers.
The agreement was announced on Monday by Prime Ministers of Albania, Edi Rama, and Italy, Giorgia Meloni. At a joint news conference in Rome, the prime leaders of the two nations declared that “mass illegal immigration is a phenomenon no EU member state can handle alone.”
In order to accommodate tens of thousands of undocumented migrants, Italy will construct two migrant facilities in the Balkan nation of Albania. By the spring of next year, the migrant centers will be open. It can handle up to 36,000 cases annually.
These facilities will not accommodate migrants who land on Italian soil; rather, they will lodge migrants who are rescued at sea by Italian boats. While Italy considers their bids for asylum, the undocumented migrants will remain in these detention facilities.
Giorgia Meloni, the prime minister of Italy, declared that vulnerable individuals, including pregnant migrant women and children, would not be covered by the proposal.
