Israel Sends Thousands of Palestinian Workers Back To Gaza

Israel has returned thousands of Palestinian laborers to the Gaza Strip amid fighting between Israeli forces and Hamas militants. Concern over this decision has been voiced by the UN.

After granting work licenses for Palestinians to work in Israel, Israel deported these people from the territory to Gaza.

Israeli officials cancelled the work permits of Palestinian employees following the attack on the country on October 7th by the Hamas militants from the Gaza Strip. Additionally, thousands of Gaza Strip-based Palestinian laborers vanished in Israel.

Workers from Palestine arrived back in Gaza on Friday via the Karem Abu Salem gate. From the Israeli side of the border, they strolled for about two kilometers. It is said that around 3,200 individuals were returned to Gaza.

Since Israel’s conflict with Hamas rebels began on October 7, Palestinian laborers have been trapped within the country. The Gaza laborers who had been in Israel the day the fighting broke out between Israeli soldiers and Hamas militants were sent back to their home territory.

Concern was voiced by the UN following Israel’s decision to return hundreds of Palestinian laborers to the Gaza Strip. According to Elizabeth Throssell, a spokesman for the UN human rights office, workers may be seriously endangered by the ongoing military conflicts in the area.

“We were very concerned that at least 4,000 Palestinian workers and hospital patients were detained in military facilities without sufficient legal basis after Israel revoked their permits,” stated Elizabeth Throssell.
