A young woman in Italy was killed by her possessive ex-boyfriend, which infuriated the nation and brought attention to the issue of violence against women.
Before her graduation ceremony, 22-year-old engineering student Giulia Cecchettin passed away. Her murder stunned the nation and brought attention to Italy’s high rate of femicide.
As per the data provided by Italy’s Interior Ministry, Giulia Cecchettin became the 102nd victim of femicide in Italy since the year’s beginning. 53 women were murdered by their spouse or ex-partner.
Nevertheless, 106 women have died in Italy so far this year, according to Cristina Gamberi, a research fellow at the University of Bologna.
Giulia Cecchettin was a youthful college attendee. North of Venice, her body was discovered in a ditch next to a lake, wrapped in plastic. It is said that she was stabbed several times. After a week-long search, her body was discovered.
She went shopping for her graduation gown earlier this month with her ex-boyfriend Filippo Turetta. But subsequently, they vanished.
Roadside cameras are reported to have taken a picture of them on November 11. Her ex-partner Filippo Turetta was seen striking her in the footage. To kill her, her ex-boyfriend taped her mouth shut, threw her in his car, and drove her to an industrial area. He covered her in black plastic bags after killing her.
