Iran bans 12 actresses from working in film over Hijab violations
12 Iranian actresses have been prohibited from working in the film industry due to their disregard for the country’s dress code, which includes the wearing of hijabs (headscarves).
Iran’s Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance, Mohammad Mehdi Esmaili, declared that women actors would not be permitted to perform in movies because they were in violation of the hijab rule and that “those who do not follow the law, will not be allowed to work.”
Twelve actors and actresses were expelled from Iran for breaking the hijab legislation. There would be a ban on movie parts for actresses like Baran Kosari, Vishka Asayesh, Taraneh Alidousti, Katayoun Riahi, Panteha Bahram, Hengameh Ghaziani, Pegah Ahangarani, Fatemeh Motamed-Aria, and others.
Among the popular figures detained during the demonstrations last year after the death in jail of Iranian-Kurdish woman Mahsa Amini, 22, were Taraneh Alidoosti and Katayoun Riahi.
A number of Oscar-winning stars also shaved their heads in support of Iranian protesters. Other French movie and music stars, including Juliette Binoche and Marion Cotillard, also cut their hair.
