Hamas posts video of kidnapped Israeli woman; She pleads for release

Hamas has released a video of an Israeli woman taken hostage during the October 7 attacks. About 200 persons may have been held hostage during the attacks.

The armed wing of Hamas, Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, released a video of Miya Shem or Maya Sham, a 21-year-old French-Israeli citizen. In the video, she was pleading for her release. She asked authorities to quickly return her to her family.

Advocates for women’s rights are calling for her release. They have denounced Hamas fighters for abducting girls, women, and kids.

Israel Defense Forces have confirmed that Mia was abducted last week and said officials have reached out to Mia’s family and are in touch with them.

Violence against women has grown as a result of the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict. According to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Hamas has raped several women and they were held as hostages and paraded through Gaza. Hamas paraded a German woman in a vehicle while she was exposed. She was spit on by Hamas fighters in a widely shared video. She was recognized as Shani Louk, a tattoo artist.
