Delhi's Dengue Crisis Escalates as Domestic Breeding Checkers Go on Strike
Delhi is facing a severe dengue crisis as the city reported a significant surge in cases, reaching the highest number since 2018. The situation has been compounded by a strike initiated by Domestic Breeding Checkers (DBCs) employed by the Delhi Municipal Corporation (DMC). On Monday, the DBCs protested, demanding equipment improvements, safety measures, and regularization.
The strike comes as a desperate plea from the DBCs who have been tirelessly working to control mosquito breeding and raise public awareness. However, their efforts have been hampered by the lack of necessary resources and inadequate support from the authorities. The DBCs assert that their requests for better equipment and safety measures have fallen on deaf ears, hindering their ability to effectively combat mosquito breeding sites.
The alarming spike in dengue cases has reached 121 in a single month, with 56 cases reported within a week. Additionally, 11 cases of malaria were discovered in the past week alone, according to the MCD report. The total number of dengue cases this year has reached 243, with 72 cases of malaria, and July alone accounting for 34 cases of malaria.
