Landmark Conviction Marks a Crucial Step in Combating Migrant Labor Exploitation

In a significant triumph for justice and human rights, two senior executives from Middle East Consultants have been convicted guilty of attempting to traffic 50 migrant laborers. This verdict, handed down by the International Crimes Division of the High Court, is a crucial step towards combatting the exploitation of vulnerable individuals seeking employment abroad.

The convicted individuals, Godfrey Kalimpa (48) and Benon Kunywana (36), held the positions of recruitment and vetting officer and general manager, respectively. They pleaded guilty to the charges, related to an incident that occurred in February 2019 at the Entebbe International Airport in Wakiso District.

On that fateful day, Kalimpa and Kunywana attempted to traffick 50 migrant laborers, primarily from low-income homes, who sought better opportunities and improved futures for their families. Exploiting the hopes of these individuals, the accused CEOs promised well-paying employment and a stable future in the Middle East.
