Gatwick Airport Braces for Potential Disruptions as Workers Plan Strike over Pay

Gatwick Airport in London is facing the possibility of disruptions as nearly a thousand workers prepare for eight days of strike action. The Unite union has announced that the strike will take place from July 28 to August 1, and then again from August 4 to August 8, as a result of an ongoing dispute over pay. With the strike coinciding with what could be the busiest summer period since the COVID-19 pandemic, concerns have been raised about potential travel disruptions.

The strike action will involve various workers, including baggage handlers and ground staff, who are employed by four companies: DHL Services, ASC, GGS, and Menzies Aviation. Major airlines such as British Airways, Ryanair, Tui, EasyJet, Wizz, and Westjet are expected to be affected by the strike, according to the Unite union. While the exact impact of the strike remains uncertain, the union has warned that delays, cancellations, and disruptions are likely.
