FGM: A Serious Human Rights Violation

 

Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) is a deeply concerning practice that continues to violate the rights of millions of girls and women around the world. FGM involves the partial or total removal of external female genitalia for non-medical reasons, often performed on girls as young as infants or adolescents.

This harmful practice, rooted in gender inequality, cultural beliefs, and social norms, has no health benefits and can lead to severe physical and psychological consequences. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that over 200 million girls and women alive today have undergone FGM, predominantly in Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.
