Beyond the Battlefield: The Daily Struggles of Syrians
Fall of the Routine
Syria's prolonged conflict has devastated all infrastructures, to the extent of piercing deep through the very fabric of daily life. Once predictable, the nation's routine has changed to one that includes absence of the most basic services and continuous threat of violence.
Education under Siege
Schools have now become improvised shelters or ruins, and this has drastically reduced the levels of education for so many children who have not been able to have even years of schooling. Furthermore was the shortage of qualified teachers and resources.
Economic Despair
The economy of the Syrian people is today shrunk by more than one-half from what it was before the war began. The value of the Syrian pound has crashed, where the average state salary is around $100 per month- just an estimate for a household whose budget is at least $400 monthly.
Healthcare Under Siege
Very few hospitals and clinics have been targeted, leaving an acute shortage of medical professionals and essential supplies. Therefore, most healthcare services have badly been affected, with a lot of Syrians unable to access even the most important treatment.
Displacement and Homelessness
More than 11 million Syrians would have no choice but to runaway from their own homes. Internally displaced people are those fleeing within their own country while refugees would be people fleeing to escape war into other countries. This gives way to establishing camps that are overcrowded and do not have rd resources.
Mental Health Crisis
The ongoing war has drained and continues to drain the entire nation psychologically. Many of its members suffer from some level of trauma, anxiety, depression, poor access to mental health services, and poor or non-existent action being taken to help them.
A Country in Peril Lives in Peril
Such a multi-faceted crisis is that of disruption of daily life in Syria-in terms of education, economy, healthcare, displacement, and so on
