Inside Syria's Power Struggle: How Islamists Are Seizing State Institutions

 The Syrian civil war has crowned the country into great humanitarian issues. The crisis has claimed more than 250 thousand lives and forced over 11 million people either within the country or outside. This has made millions of people in the country to lack the most basic needs that hail from the destroyed infrastructure of the country by the war.

Economic Devastation

As evidenced by the data above the war has almost paralyzed the Syrian economy. More than ninety percent of Syrian pound has been devalued leaving the country in hands of hyper inflation and high poverty level. Housing and food have become expensive, for many people, and the level of unemployment has hugely increased.

Healthcare System Collapse

All these years the permanent infrastructure has been reported severely affected with many hospitals either being completely damaged or used by the fighting forces. Essential medicine is lacking and there is a shortage of health care human resource. Neglect of medical needs has affected the community hence there are registered high incidence of diseases that could easily be controlled thus high mortality rate.

Education Interrupted

An education system has also been affected and with it schools were destroyed or being used as shelter. It is heartbreaking millions of children are not in school, denied opportunities and a shot at a regular childhood. This disruption poses a risk to an entire generation going into extinction and this is not acceptable.

Social Fabric Undermined

The war has disaggregated the civil structures of Syrian society. Environment is detached and trust has been eroded from societies and groups. The experience of warfare has made levels of domestic violence and substance abuse go up; more social vices embarked on are affecting society.


The situation in the Syrian is the humanitarian crisis that needs an intervention from the international community. It follows that the global community must bring food, money, staff, build houses, schools, hospitals, vote in a new president and help in rebuilding Syria in an effort to bring peace and stability into the war torn country.
