UN Special Rapporteur Alarmed by Deteriorating Human Rights in Sudan
The UN human rights expert on Sudan, Radhouane Nouicer, expressed grave concern over the dire human rights situation and ongoing armed conflict. In its 10th month, violence between parties continues unabated, causing immense civilian suffering.
Despite regional and international mediation, peaceful resolution remains out of sight. Nouicer called on leaders to immediately end violence, ensure civilian rule, and answer victims’ calls for peace and justice.
As fighting spreads nationwide between government and paramilitary forces, violations of human rights and international law proliferate without restraint. Nouicer stressed the urgent need for political will to silence guns and resolve conflict.
Since last April, thousands have died or suffered injury while both sides flagrantly disregard international law. Over 7.6 million have fled their homes, including 1.5 million to neighboring states. At least 25 million people across Sudan now require assistance, including 14 million children. Immediate action is needed to curb this humanitarian crisis.
