Human Rights Watch Exposes Worsening Situation of Women’s Rights in Afghanistan Under Taliban Rule
In Afghanistan, the Taliban is severely restricting basic rights, especially for women, according to a new Human Rights Watch report. The report shows the Taliban is making it very difficult for women to have equal rights.
In 2023, the Taliban imposed more rules that took away people’s freedoms and even committed war crimes. The head of Human Rights Watch, Tirana Hassan, is urging countries to keep their promise to protect people’s rights.
The sad report found that in Afghanistan, girls cannot go to school to get an education. It said Afghanistan is the only country where this is happening. Women are facing serious problems.
The Taliban is making life very hard for women by not allowing them to study, stopping protests, arresting women who speak up for rights, and even hurting them and their families. Because of this, many women lost their jobs. Rights Watch says we need to help Afghanistan with important things like money and supplies because many people there are struggling. The report also talks about other issues like the Taliban controlling what people can say to media and arresting journalists. Many Afghans are poor because the Taliban is in charge, there are international punishments, and there has been no rain for many years.
Even though the Taliban said they would treat women better when taking control in 2021, they are doing the opposite. They made strict rules for women and even closed beauty salons.
