UK Forcing Italian Woman With ‘Permanent Residency’ Card To Leave The Country

A woman in the UK has been compelled to leave the nation despite having a “permanent residency card.” After Brexit, an Italian woman may be deported from the United Kingdom even though she possesses a “permanent residency” card.

An Italian investor in environmental technology spent 14 years in the UK, according to a piece published in The Guardian. She worked in the UK as well. For her and tens of thousands of other EU citizens, things altered following the UK’s exit from the EU in 2020.

The British man is the spouse of the Italian woman. Their infant daughter is binational. In 2016, she filed for permanent residency. Even with the card, she may still be compelled to depart the nation due to EU settlement regulations.

The Home Office amended immigration regulations in 2019, requiring tens of thousands of EU citizens to apply for a different program under EU settlement, a move that they were unaware of. They then found out that their card for permanent residence was void.

They were requested to submit an application for the EU settlement plan, which had ended as of 2021. Only those with “reasonable grounds” may file applications after the deadline.

Many people, some of whom had lived in the UK for decades with children and grandchildren, were inhabitants of the UK prior to Brexit, the UK’s exit from the European Union. They are living in fear since Brexit.
