Biden Speaks With Mexico’s Obrador About Migrant Crisis; What To Expect?
The southern border migrant situation was discussed on Thursday between Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and US President Joe Biden.
López Obrador and Joe Biden both agreed that more enforcement measures were required to deal with the border migration situation. They emphasized how crucial it is to reopen important ports of entry. The two leaders also decided to focus on addressing the underlying factors that contribute to migration.
The United States Border Patrol is facing challenges due to the surge of migrants along the border between Mexico and Texas. U.S. Customs and Border Protection saw more than 12,000 unauthorized migrants entering the country on Wednesday.
Many migrants were also transported to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, as stated by Diego Lopez, Director of Casa Alitas: “It’s an extra burden that we’ve all had to lift.”
In light of the surge at the southern border, Joe Biden plans to dispatch a high-level US delegation to Mexico in the near future to talk about migration issues.
The leaders of the two countries concurred that the migration situation needed to be addressed immediately. They talked about ongoing “migration flows management efforts.”
In order to meet with the Mexican President and address the migrant issue at the border, Biden invited Anthony Blinken, the US Secretary of State, Alejandro Mayorkas, the US Secretary of Homeland Security, and Elizabeth Sherwood-Randall, the US Homeland Security Advisor, to travel to Mexico.
