Microsoft Takes Observer Position On OpenAI’s Board As Sam Altman Returns

 

Microsoft, a global technology company based in the United States, has become a board member of OpenAI, after Sam Altman’s official return to the position of CEO.

The American artificial intelligence research firm OpenAI has been in the news lately. Disagreements on the advancement and commercialization of artificial intelligence (AI) led to Sam Altman’s dismissal from the OpenAI board. Every employee at OpenAI was taken aback by his abrupt departure. Following this, over 740 of OpenAI’s 770 workers threatened to leave the firm in the event that Sam Altman wasn’t reinstated by the board. Following all of the controversy, OpenAI decided to reinstate Sam Altman as the company’s CEO.

Following Sam Altman’s return, Microsoft joined OpenAI’s board on Thursday. Microsoft joined the OpenAI board as an observer with no voting rights.

Senior staff members and a Microsoft representative are permitted to attend OpenAI board meetings as observers, but the corporation will not be able to vote on significant issues.

The new board of OpenAI includes Bret Taylor, a former co-CEO of Salesforce, Larry Summers, a former U.S. Adam D’Angelo, the CEO of Quora and the Treasury Secretary, was on the board that dismissed Sam Altman.

After Sam Altman left the company, Mira Murati took over as interim CEO and reverted to her previous role as chief technology officer, or CTO.
