Iran Arrests 2 Women Journalists In Mass Raids; What Happened To Them?
According to a report by the Committee to Protect Journalists, two female journalists, Nasim Tavafzadeh and Helaleh Nategheh, were detained by Iranian authorities on Saturday during widespread raids.
The chief editor of the regional news website Moroor.org, Nasim Tavafzadeh, and the outlet’s environmental news reporter, Helaleh Nategheh, were taken into custody by intelligence agents from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, a multi-service primary branch of the Iranian Armed Forces, during widespread raids in Rasht, a city in the Central District of Rasht County, Gilan province, Iran. Two female journalists were abducted by Iranian authorities and taken to an unknown destination.
The Iranian government launched widespread raids on the city of Rasht in the north on Saturday. Twenty individuals were taken into custody on Saturday, including the two Iranian women journalists. Women made up the bulk of those detained. Additionally, their electronic gadgets were seized. The government attempted to exert control over the media in this way.
The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) program coordinator for the Committee to Protect Journalists, Sherif Mansour, declared, “Iranian authorities must immediately and unconditionally release the two female journalists and the many others arrested in Rasht.”
