Children’s Education At Risk As Schools Are Severely Damaged Amid War

The full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine has severely damaged educational facilities and endangered a large number of students and faculty members.

Human Rights Watch (HRW) stated in a study on November 9 that thousands of schools and kindergartens had been destroyed as a result of Russia’s assault on Ukraine, which has had a significant impact on children’s education.

The situation of children in Ukraine was exposed in a 71-page report by Human Rights Watch titled Tanks On The Playground. Since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, more than 3,790 educational facilities have been destroyed or severely damaged, according to HRW.

Aerial bombardment, artillery shelling, and rocket strikes caused significant damage to the majority of educational facilities and schools in Ukraine.

According to a report by HRW, it was a war crime for Russian forces to regularly plunder schools they had taken over.

Human Rights Watch’s Hugh Williamson, director of the Europe and Central Asia section, stated that “attacks on education are attacks on their future,” meaning that Ukrainian children have paid a heavy price in this war.
