Women, including prime minister, go on strike in Iceland for equal pay
Women are asking for equal pay and an end to abuse in Iceland. They are promoting more gender equality throughout the nation.
Iceland is been ranked as the world’s most gender-equal nation, according to the World Economic Forum. However, on Tuesday, tens of thousands of women, including the prime minister, participated in a walkout to draw attention to the country’s systematic gender pay gap and gender-based violence. Due to the Icelandic women’s strike, businesses, banks, schools, and swimming pools were all closed on Tuesday.
Women organized the strike, also known as the “Women’s Day Off” or “Kvennafr” in the nation, to increase awareness of gender-based violence and wage inequality in the nation. Because there is a pay discrepancy between men and women, women suffer. Women have resisted taking on unpaid work as a form of protest against wage discrimination.
