Rehabilitation of Hindu Migrants: Jaisalmer District Allots Land for Pakistani Hindu Families

In a significant move towards rehabilitation, the Jaisalmer district government in Rajasthan, India, has allotted over 40 bighas of land to numerous Hindu migrants from Pakistan. The allocation aims to provide a new home for those who were evicted from public land in the Amarsagar area. This article delves into the details of this rehabilitation effort and the steps taken by the Jaisalmer District Collector, Tina Dabi, to address the needs of these displaced families.

On Tuesday, more than 40 bighas of land were awarded to Pakistani Hindu families who faced eviction in the Amarsagar area. The allotted land, located approximately 5 kilometers from the district headquarters and near Moolsagar, will serve as a rehabilitation site for these families. This move by the Jaisalmer district government reflects a commitment to support and provide shelter to those in need.

Tina Dabi's statement on Wednesday played a pivotal role in ceasing the protests initiated by the affected migrants. The protests arose after the Urban Improvement Trust (UIT) conducted a clearance drive, demolishing makeshift homes and removing migrants living there illegally as part of an anti-encroachment effort. Dabi's assurance and the subsequent land allocation helped restore a sense of stability and hope among the affected families.

Tina Dabi clarified that the designated land would be reserved for individuals who are still considered Pakistani migrants, with the allotment taking place once they attain Indian citizenship. The district administration will compile a comprehensive list of all Pakistani oustees residing in the designated area and verify their accounts with the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI). The process will prioritize those with Indian citizenship, while others will be required to submit applications and undergo the necessary procedures.
